Milan President Paolo Scaroni explains that Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘opens doors’ in his new role and is ‘a great motivator’ for the squad. They are in action this evening in the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Atalanta.
It kicks off at San Siro at 20.00 GMT.
The winners will be decided after 90 minutes, extra time or even penalties and go on to face Fiorentina, who beat Bologna in a shoot-out last night.
However, Scaroni was asked primarily about the presence in the stands of Ibrahimovic, who is officially a Senior Advisor to Milan owners RedBird.
“I talked with Zlatan yesterday for an hour and clarified some ideas. We talked about our past and our future,” Scaroni told Mediaset.
“He is an extraordinary character. He can give a big contribution to RedBird, because he is someone who opens doors that no other personality can open.
“He told me that when it comes to Milan, motivation is everything, and he is a great motivator.”
Ibra decided to hang up his boots last summer and took some time to rest and recuperate before committing to the new role with his old club.
It represents the third different spell with the Rossoneri, after two as a player.
