Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of highly rated centre-back Lucas Beraldo from Sao Paulo.

The 20-year-old established himself as a key player for Sao Paulo in 2023 and quickly attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich among the sides to send scouts to watch his progress.

Beraldo, who has signed a five-year contract, said: “I am very happy to join a Club as ambitious as Paris Saint-Germain. This is an important step in my career, which will help me progress. I can’t wait to get to know my new teammates and take my first steps in this jersey.”

Gabriel Moscardo.

Beraldo was expected to be followed through the door by another Brazilian talent, Gabriel Moscardo. PSG have struck a deal to sign the 18-year-old Corinthians midfielder ahead of both Chelsea and Barcelona, but an injury has provided a late obstacle to the move.

Moscardo’s PSG medical raised concerns about a foot injury and the teenager has since confirmed he will head under the knife.

“After recent tests, it seems necessary to carry out this preventive operation, which should keep me away from the field for the next three months,” Moscardo wrote on social media. “This will allow me to come back stronger and pursue my career dream.”

PSG are understood to be happy to finalise the move for Moscardo but may now delay the announcement.
