Liverpool have agreed a deal to hire Arne Slot as their next manager, with the Dutch boss set to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
The Reds had been locked in negotiations over compensation with Feyenoord and finally struck an agreement late on Friday.
Slot surprised many when he publicly admitted his desire to take charge at Liverpool on Thursday, but with no release clause in his contract, the Anfield outfit had to agree a compensation package with Feyenoord before they could move forwards.
As first revealed by VI and later backed up by sources across Europe, the two clubs were locked in negotiations throughout Friday and finally shook hands on a compensation package to take Slot to Anfield next season.
Klopp gave his blessing to Slot earlier on Friday, before an agreement between the two clubs was reached, admitting he has been impressed by the Dutchman’s tactical setup.
Liverpool considered a number of managers in their quest to replace Klopp. They began pursuing former midfielder Xabi Alonso alongside Bayern Munich, but the Spaniard publicly turned down the chance to leave Bayer Leverkusen and went on to lead his side to the Bundesliga title.
Club officials also considered Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP but ultimately declined to pursue a deal and instead switched their focus to Slot, who led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season.
Slot’s side currently sit second in the Dutch league, nine points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
