Mbappe is yet to communicate a decision on his future to PSG or Real Madrid. France captain has long been touted for big move to Bernabeu. The 25-year-old is PSG’s record scorer but could leave this summer.
The French World Cup winner has long seemed destined to make the switch to the Bernabeu and is firmly into the final six months of his contract with French giants PSG.
90min reported in January that Mbappe must inform club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi first once he decides where his future allegiances lie. His camp have so far been insistent no agreement has been reached with Los Blancos over a future deal.
The Athletic understands Mbappe is still yet to give his word either way to PSG or Madrid, with some of his entourage said to be ‘unconvinced’ over the offer from Spain.
Their report adds Madrid boss Florentino Perez has been in regular contact with Mbappe and pulled out all the stops to ensure a deal can be closed. The finances of the deal are less lucrative for Mbappe than they would have been had negotiations successfully concluded back in 2022. However, the 25-year-old would still become the best-paid player in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
Mbappe admitted back in January he will have to leave Ligue 1 “at some point”, having become the record goalscorer for PSG and the ninth-highest scorer in the history of France’s top flight.
The French champions are already preparing for his exit. Luis Enrique’s side have drafted a shortlist of replacements should their talisman leave, with Marcus Rashford and Victor Osimhen eyed as potential big-name alternatives.
Madrid winger Rodrygo recently spoke of his excitement at a prospective link-up with Mbappe in Spain’s capital, admitting: “I want to play with the best players.”
