Joshua Zirkzee has become Manchester United’s first summer signing, moving from Bologna in a deal worth approximately £36.5m. The Dutch striker, who represented the Netherlands at Euro 2024, expressed his enthusiasm for joining what he calls the “best club in the world.”

Zirkzee, who featured twice in the Euros including a memorable cameo against England, described the transfer as a positive step amidst what he termed a “rollercoaster” few weeks. He joins United as they seek to rejuvenate their squad under manager Erik ten Hag, following a disappointing Premier League season.

Speaking about his move, Zirkzee said, “I have a lot of trust and a good feeling about this step. It wasn’t a difficult decision. I mean, I love Bologna a lot, but Manchester United just gave me a very, very good feeling.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Joshua Zirkzee expressed his eagerness to contribute to United’s success, starting with their Community Shield clash against Manchester City on August 10th and their Premier League opener against Fulham six days later at Old Trafford.

“I’m very happy to be here. I mean, it’s probably the biggest club in the world, so I can’t wait to get started and get to know everyone and start this journey. I’m very, very excited,” he added.

With Zirkzee’s arrival, United aims to bolster their attacking prowess, hoping the Dutchman can build on his impressive form from last season, where he scored 12 goals in all competitions for Bologna.

Zirkzee’s move marks the beginning of United’s summer rebuild, with further signings expected to follow as they prepare for the challenges ahead in domestic and European competitions.
