Chelsea signed goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for £20.7m on a seven-year contract. The 22-year-old Dane played 37 matches for Villarreal last season as their first-choice goalkeeper.

“This move is a dream come true,” said Jorgensen. “I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new team-mates.”

Jorgensen will compete with Robert Sanchez for Chelsea’s number-one position. Born in Sweden, he represented the country at youth level before switching to Denmark Under-21s, qualifying through his paternal heritage.

He joined Villarreal at 15 and progressed through their youth setup. He made his senior debut for the B side in October 2020 and his La Liga debut in January 2023.

Jorgensen has flown to the United States to join Chelsea’s pre-season tour. The Blues have three games left, so he could play against Club America, Manchester City, or Real Madrid before returning home next week.

Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign at home against champions City on Sunday, 18 August (16:30 BST).
