Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, has signed a new three-year contract. This deal keeps him at the club until the summer of 2027 and includes an option for an additional 12 months. The new agreement ends any speculation about Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford, where rumors suggested he might leave after last season.
Fernandes joined United in 2020 and has already made 234 appearances. Now, with this contract extension, he is set to stay at the club well into his thirties.
“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United,” Fernandes shared with ManUtd.com. “I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt. The levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club are clear to me.
“I’ve already experienced many special moments here. Hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights, and lifting trophies at Wembley—all of these stand out. But I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.
“In my discussions with the football leadership and manager, I saw how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead. The future looks positive, and I’m excited to lead this team forward.”
Recent reports anticipated a new contract, which also revealed Fernandes is now among United’s highest earners, thanks to a pay rise.
Bruno Fernandes is a three-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner. Only David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo, both with four, have won it more. He consistently scores double figures each season and leads the Premier League in chance creation since arriving in England.
Last season’s FA Cup triumph at Wembley marked a significant achievement. It was a major trophy in Fernandes’ first year as United’s skipper.
