Joshua Zirkzee launched his Manchester United career with a perfect start, scoring a late winner in their 1-0 victory over Fulham. Despite the Red Devils looking set for a goalless draw, Zirkzee’s goal in the 87th minute ensured United’s triumph at Old Trafford.

The £36 million signing from Atalanta came off the bench to connect with a Bruno Fernandes cross, finding the bottom left corner with just his seventh touch. This victory marks United’s 22nd Premier League opening day win, extending their record.

The Theatre of Dreams has seen United open the season at home for eight consecutive years, setting a Premier League record. Last season, Fulham had beaten United 2-1 at Old Trafford, making this win particularly sweet.

Fulham, who were dangerous on the counterattack, failed to capitalize on their second-half opportunities, leaving United to secure the win. United’s bounce-back from a Community Shield loss to Manchester City was also noteworthy.

New signing Noussair Mazraoui made his debut and impressed, while Matthijs de Ligt, another summer arrival, watched from the bench.

Zirkzee, a fan favorite already, will be hoping for more chances as he steps in for the injured Rasmus Hojlund. He is only the fourth Dutchman to score on his United debut, following in the footsteps of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Donny van de Beek, and Alexander Buttner.

After the match, Joshua Zirkzee shared his excitement: “Winning on my debut and scoring a goal—it couldn’t be better. Scoring at the Stretford End is an amazing feeling, and I’m blessed to experience it. The squad and the fans are fantastic, and we aim to achieve great things together.”
