Chelsea is on the verge of finalizing the transfer of Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid. The young striker is expected to undergo medical tests soon, marking the final steps in his move to Stamford Bridge.

The agreement follows extended negotiations involving Conor Gallagher, who will head to Madrid in a separate deal. Omorodion, who is only 20 years old, will cost Chelsea around £35 million. He has signed a seven-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

Despite closing in on Omorodion, Chelsea continues discussions with Napoli regarding Victor Osimhen. Chelsea sees the pursuit of Osimhen as independent of their deal with Omorodion.

With Samu Omorodion joining Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu, Chelsea’s options in the number nine position are well-covered. This reduces the urgency to meet Napoli’s high demands for Osimhen. However, Osimhen’s desire to leave and Napoli’s need to offload his wages might lead to a revised offer or adjusted terms.

At 25, Osimhen brings considerable experience compared to many of Chelsea’s recent targets. He has scored 65 Serie A goals since his arrival in Italy in 2020, including 26 during Napoli’s title-winning 2022/23 season.

Omorodion represents a long-term investment with significant potential. The Spanish forward, still a teenager until May, played for Granada’s B squad in Spain’s fourth tier during the 2022/23 season. His performances there earned him a move to Atletico, followed by a loan to Alaves. During his loan spell, Omorodion scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances for the mid-table club.
