Borussia Dortmund have opened talks with Manchester United regarding the return of Jadon Sancho, according to reports in Germany.
The 23-year-old winger hasn’t featured for United since August, when a public contradiction of manager Erik ten Hag led to him having to train away from his teammates. Even without this season’s issues, Sancho has struggled to impress since his £73million move to United in 2021, managing just 12 goals and six assists in 82 games in all competitions.
That’s a far cry from his form at Dortmund, where Sancho became one of football’s premier young talents, notching an incredible 50 goals and 58 assists in 137 matches. The outlet reports that Dortmund are asking for £25m for former Arsenal academy star Malen, who has dropped down the pecking order this season.
The 24-year-old recently swapped agents and is now represented by Maikel Stevens of Sports Entertainment Group [SEG]. SEG also have Man United manager Erik ten Hag and striker Rasmus Hojlund among their clients.
Despite being key in last season’s title charge, Malen is widely reported to be demanding a winter move in order to secure his spot in the Netherlands team at Euro 2024.
Malen has featured in 19 out of a possible 21 games for Dortmund this season, but hasn’t completed 90 minutes since August with manager Edin Terzic favouring other options. Sancho, meanwhile, has just three appearances to his name this term, with a chasm appearing between himself and manager Ten Hag after a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on September 3.
Ten Hag said Sancho wasn’t selected for the squad due to his performances in training not being at the level required. The England winger responded with a statement on social media, calling the comments ‘untrue’.
