David Moyes survived a scare on his final West Ham home match to leave Luton on the brink of relegation after his side won 3-1.
Forgotten Arsenal star Albert Sambi Lokonga – on loan with the Hatters – threatened to spoil Moyes’ party after breaking the deadlock at the London Stadium in the sixth minute.
Lokonga drifted into the box unmarked where he got on the end of Alfie Doughty’s cross to head beyond Alphonse Areola.
It was a goal that could have kept Luton in the Premier League – for another week at least – as they would have went level on points with Nottingham Forest in 17th.
Luton went into their clash in the capital knowing they could get relegated back down to the Championship on Saturday.
And this could now happen later on after the Hammers fought back to score three second half goals.
James Ward-Prowse equalised for the hosts in fine fashion, before Tomas Soucek put last season’s Europa Conference League champions ahead.
Academy graduate George Earthy then sealed the cherry on top for West Ham with a strike in the 76th minute.
The result means that Forest only now need to claim a point against Chelsea at the City Ground to ensure their safety.
As for Moyes, he will be left feeling delighted following the second half comeback, with West Ham bouncing back from their 5-0 defeat away at Stamford Bridge last time out.
Burnley have been relegated from the Premier League after they could not secure a win at Tottenham which would have kept their hopes alive.
The Clarets, who knew a draw or defeat meant they would no longer be able to catch fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest, took the lead when Jacob Bruun Larsen slid in a 25th-minute opener.
The joy among the travelling fans was tempered seven minutes later when Pedro Porro hammered in an equaliser.
After dominating the second half without finding a way through, Spurs were finally rewarded when defender Micky van de Ven burst forward and expertly slotted the winner into the bottom corner.
The draw would have done few favours for fifth-placed Tottenham, who needed a win to keep the pressure on Aston Villa in the race for the Champions League.
Spurs are four points behind Villa with each side having two games remaining.
Burnley are five points behind Forest with one game remaining, meaning they join Sheffield United in making an instant return to the Championship.
