Cristiano Ronaldo showcased his enduring brilliance by securing a hat-trick, silencing recent criticisms questioning his status as Portugal’s premier player.
As anticipation builds for Euro 2024, where Ronaldo is poised to represent Portugal, speculation has arisen regarding his role within the squad.
European soccer authority Andy Brassell has suggested that Ronaldo may transition into a supplementary position under Roberto Martinez’s leadership. Brassell contends that the mantle of Portugal’s foremost talent now rests upon the shoulders of Manchester City luminary, Bernardo Silva.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Brassell articulated, “I think Cristiano Ronaldo realises now that sometimes he’ll start, and sometimes he’ll be a squad player and that is just what he’s going to have to live with.”
“It’s interesting because to even think about criticising Ronaldo two or three years ago would have been treated as complete heresy in Portugal. Whereas now, I think people understand that Bernardo Silva is their best player.”
